Bath Royal Literary & Scientific
Institution
With the aim of furthering "the advancement of literature,
science and art The Institution was founded in 1824. In 1837 it received its
Royal Charter and rapidly acquired a prestigious reputation, particularly in
scientific circles.
The Institution had amongst its member’s pioneers who
amassed collections of geology, natural history and ethnology of international
importance.
